Drum emptying – the easier way
The emptying of powder or bulk products contained in drums can vary in difficulty depending on the flow qualities of the product being transferred, the weight of the drum and the need to contain any powder from escaping into the environment. Volkmann has developed solutions to address these issues, emptying the drum almost completely and without a lot of operator intervention.
To empty drums, the barrel is mounted into a holding station and then tipped by hand. The operator inserts a suction lance into the drum to transfer the product out of the barrel via vacuum conveying. As the product is sucked out of the drum, the lance sinks down into the drum via gravity and thus, gradually empties the contents.
This emptying process is easily adapted to the product and the task situation at hand, such as emptying drums where a liner is present or supporting the process with a vibrator attached to the station below the platform to help extract difficult-to-flow products.
For products that tend to be very dusty, or should be contained as much as possible, it is possible to fit a lid on the barrel that is equipped with a ventilation filter and a sealing sleeve to prevent dust from escaping.
