Designed to reduce manual drum lifting and handling, these ergonomic systems can raise, tip, and empty powders and other dry bulk materials from drums into a mixer, tank, reactor, or the company’s pneumatic vacuum conveying system for enclosed transfer to downstream processing equipment. After positioning a filled drum on an integrated roller conveyor, an operator initiates the drum handling sequence using two-hand safety controls. Through the enclosed glove box, the operator can verify and guide the drum liner for controlled discharge. Depending on the flow characteristics of the material and the system configuration, the drum contents discharge under controlled conditions and the empty drum is gently returned to its loading position on the conveyor for reduced dust, mess, and physical labor.

Suitable for chemical, pharmaceutical, food, nutrition, and other manufacturers focused on worker safety and workplace cleanliness, the Volkmann Drum Discharge Systems are custom-engineered for each application to suit the material, container, and process requirements. The drum lifters are available configured with integrated dust extraction for low-dust material transfer and may be engineered for containment to safely transfer hazardous or highly active materials.

Depending on the application, the Volkmann drum dumper may also be designed to accommodate bulk bags, sacks, flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC), and other containers. Factory acceptance testing is available at the company’s test laboratory in Bristol, PA.
